This bill requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on the protection of Native American seeds and traditional foods. The study will examine the extent to which commercial products fraudulently claim to be authentic Native American seeds or foods, the availability and viability of Native American seeds, and the federal protections for these seeds and foods. The bill also ensures the confidentiality of sensitive tribal information gathered by the study and exempts it from public disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. Additionally, the bill specifies that the bill does not interfere with the exclusive ownership and control of Native American seeds by Indian tribes unless the tribe consents to ownership or control by another entity.
