This bill, known as the Kimberly Vaughan Firearm Safe Storage Act, aims to require the safe storage of firearms and ammunition, as well as the investigation of reports of improper storage. It amends federal law to make it unlawful for a person to store or keep a firearm or ammunition on the premises of a residence if they know or should reasonably know that an individual under 18 years of age or someone who is ineligible to possess a firearm may gain access to it without permission. The bill provides exceptions for firearms and ammunition that are secured in a safe or stored off-premises. It also sets penalties for violations, including fines and the seizure and storage of the firearm or ammunition by the Attorney General. Additionally, the bill directs the Attorney General to certify safes and safe storage facilities for firearms and ammunition within one year of the bill's enactment, and requires the investigation of reports of improper firearm or ammunition storage.
