This bill proposes to amend the New York state constitution to increase the term length for members of the state legislature from two years to four years. Specifically, it would change the term length for state senators and assembly members elected in 2020 and subsequent years, while maintaining the current two-year terms for those elected before 2020. The proposed amendments must be referred to the next regular legislative session after the next general election of assembly members and published three months prior to that election, in accordance with the state constitution.
