Despite previous investigations, enforcement actions, and the installation of odor mitigation systems by the NJSEA, the odors continue, and the landfill has repeatedly exceeded the DEP's regulatory standard for hydrogen sulfide emissions. The resolution also references a Superior Court ruling that ordered the landfill's permanent closure due to a "clear and immediate danger" to residents, and therefore, it strongly encourages the NJSEA to comply with this court order by expeditiously closing and capping the landfill to eliminate these harmful emissions.
