This bill, the Justice for Victims of Kleptocracy Act of 2019, requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish and regularly update its website with an accounting of property that has been forfeited to the United States as a result of foreign government corruption. The bill specifies that the website must include the total amount recovered on behalf of the foreign government that was the target of corruption. Additionally, the bill expresses the sense of Congress that forfeited funds should be returned to the lawful owner as soon as practicable, once the foreign government meets adequate standards of governance and democracy as determined by the Secretary of State.
