This bill amends the Michigan Election Law to expand the locations that can be used as polling places. The key provisions are: 1) Publicly owned or controlled buildings, such as school buildings, fire stations, and police stations, must be used as polling places, but if those are not available, the legislative body can use other tax-exempt buildings, except those owned by sponsors of political committees. 2) The legislative body can establish central polling places for up to 6 precincts if it is convenient for voters. 3) The legislative body can establish polling places at for-profit or non-profit residences or facilities where 150 or more individuals aged 62 or older reside, or at apartment buildings or complexes with 150 or more residents. 4) The legislative body cannot establish, move, or abolish a polling place less than 60 days before an election, except in emergencies. 5) The legislative body must ensure polling places are accessible and comply with federal voting accessibility laws.
