This bill revises the requirements for licensure as a massage therapist in Florida. It renames the "Massage Practice Act" to the "Massage Therapy Practice Act" and provides new definitions for "massage therapy" and "massage therapist." The bill removes the option for an apprenticeship program as an alternative to attending a board-approved massage therapy school. It also repeals the requirement for massage therapist applicants to take a state-administered exam, and instead requires them to pass a national exam designated by the board. The bill allows massage apprentices licensed before July 1, 2020 to continue their apprenticeship and apply for full licensure by July 1, 2022. The bill also makes various other changes related to the regulation of massage therapy practice in Florida.
