This bill requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to create a family reunion program that provides eligible inmates and their families the opportunity to meet for an extended period of time in a residential setting. The program will be available at every general confinement maximum-security state correctional facility and at certain medium-security facilities. Eligible inmates must have a good disciplinary record, comply with departmental requirements, and not pose a current danger. The program allows for visits from various family members, including spouses, children, parents, grandparents, and other relatives, with reasonable accommodations provided for disabled visitors. The bill will take effect one year after it becomes law.
