This bill establishes biennial continuing medical education (CME) requirements of 40 credit hours for the renewal of physician assistant licenses in Hawaii, beginning with the renewal for the licensing biennium on February 1, 2020 and every biennial renewal thereafter. It authorizes the Hawaii Medical Board to conduct random audits to enforce compliance with the CME requirements. The bill also specifies the conditions for forfeiture and reinstatement of a physician assistant's license. The purpose of this bill is to align Hawaii's licensing standards for physician assistants with the majority of states, which the legislature believes will encourage the growth of the physician assistant profession and help address Hawaii's critical physician shortage.
