AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring a course of study in the prevention of eating disorders

This bill amends the Education Law to require a course of instruction on the prevention of eating disorders for students in grades 5 through 12 in all public schools in New York State. The Commissioner of Education, in consultation with the Department of Health, will define the program, which must include educating students, parents, and school personnel. The Commissioner may also provide technical assistance to aid in developing age-appropriate curricula to promote awareness, skills, information, self-confidence, and support to prevent eating disorders.
