This bill requires county boards of education to prepare and post on their websites annual reports that identify areas where students are ineligible for transportation services based on distance, and the safe alternative routes such students can use to travel to school. It also requires the governing body of each county to construct any necessary sidewalks and crosswalks to create these safe alternative routes for students ineligible for transportation. The bill defines "safe alternative route" to include roads with sidewalks and crosswalks, foot paths, and bike paths. If the county must alter a road not under its jurisdiction to meet these requirements, it must work with the entity controlling that road to develop and execute a plan in an expeditious manner.
