This bill requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review and develop effluent standards, pretreatment standards, and water quality criteria for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. The bill also provides federal grants to publicly owned treatment works to implement these new standards. Specifically, the bill requires the EPA to publish a plan reviewing the introduction or discharge of PFAS from point sources, determine whether to add PFAS to the list of toxic pollutants, and establish effluent limitations and pretreatment standards for PFAS. The bill also sets deadlines for the EPA to publish water quality criteria and effluent limitations and pretreatment standards for certain priority PFAS. Additionally, the bill authorizes $100 million in grants to help publicly owned treatment works implement the new PFAS pretreatment standards.
