This bill revises the requirements for parental notification prior to removing a student for an involuntary mental health examination under certain circumstances. The bill requires the school principal or their designee to notify the parent before removing the student, unless such notification would cause a delay that jeopardizes the student's or another individual's physical or mental health or safety. The bill also allows the principal to delay notification for up to 24 hours if they deem it to be in the student's best interest and if a report has been made to the child abuse hotline. The bill applies to both traditional public schools and charter schools, and requires each school district and charter school governing board to develop policies and procedures for implementing these notification requirements.
