Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the transportation law, in relation to the purchase of zero-emission buses
AI Summary
This bill amends the New York transportation law to require all public transportation systems eligible for operating assistance to purchase only zero-emission buses and related equipment starting January 1, 2029. Zero-emission buses are defined as vehicles that are propelled by an electric motor and draw electricity from a hydrogen fuel cell or rechargeable battery, or otherwise operate without direct emission of atmospheric pollutants. The bill also requires the Department of Transportation to consider this requirement when disbursing capital project funding and to facilitate coordination between public transportation systems outside New York City for the purpose of meeting the zero-emission bus requirement.
