This bill requires the State Department of Education to develop, by July 1, 2021, a program of education on the dangers of gambling and gambling addiction to be provided in public high schools. The program must be coordinated with other state agencies responsible for gambling addiction education and control, including the Behavioral Health Administration of the Maryland Department of Health. Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, county boards may require each public middle and high school in the county to include instruction on the dangers of gambling and gambling addiction for students in grades 6 through 12. The State Board may adopt regulations to implement these requirements, and the Department must report to the Governor and General Assembly by December 31, 2023 on the county boards that required such instruction and the education programs used.
