This bill amends the New York insurance law to require health insurance policies that provide medical, major medical, or similar comprehensive coverage to include coverage for prosthetic devices, including repairs and replacements, that are medically necessary for rehabilitative and habilitative purposes, as defined by federal law. The coverage for prosthetic devices will be subject to annual deductibles and coinsurance rates set by the state superintendent, which cannot be greater than the rates for other essential health benefits covered by the policy. The term "prosthetic device" is defined to include artificial limbs and related services, but exclude ordinary wearing apparel like shoes.
