This bill establishes a permissive preference in private employment for certain veterans in Mississippi. It allows private employers to adopt employment policies that give preference in hiring to honorably discharged veterans, spouses of disabled or missing veterans, and unremarried widows/widowers of veterans who died from service-connected disabilities or combat-related conditions. The preferences established in this act are not considered violations of any state or local equal employment opportunity law, and the bill will take effect on July 1, 2020.
