This bill provides paid family and medical leave for state employees and teachers in Tennessee. It amends the state's laws to allow eligible employees and teachers who have worked for at least one year and 1,250 hours in the past 12 months to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave for qualifying events, such as the birth or adoption of a child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition, or the employee's own serious health condition. The leave must be used within 12 months of the qualifying event and will run concurrently with any other leave the employee or teacher is entitled to, such as the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The state's Department of Human Resources and the State Board of Education are tasked with promulgating rules to implement the new paid leave program.
