This bill amends the New York Election Law to require boards or bodies empowered to designate polling places to use public buildings as polling places to the extent practicable, except that public school buildings cannot be designated as early voting polling locations. The bill also allows buildings exempt from taxation or receiving more than $1 million in annual state grant funding to be used as polling places unless the owner or operator can demonstrate it is significantly incompatible with the entity's primary function. The bill requires boards or agencies controlling such public buildings to make rooms available for registration and voting, unless the building's controlling board or body requests a cancellation of the designation within 30 days and the board or body empowered to make the designation determines the use would unreasonably interfere with the building's usual activities.
