This bill amends existing law to provide that certain chiropractic physicians, in addition to physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, are qualified health professionals for the purpose of returning athletes to play after suspected concussions or head injuries. The bill specifies that a chiropractic physician must have successfully completed training on the most recent sport concussion assessment tool (SCAT) or an equally rigorous, nationally recognized concussion assessment protocol in order to be considered a qualified health professional under the law. The bill aims to expand the pool of qualified professionals who can evaluate and authorize the return to play for youth athletes who have sustained a suspected concussion or head injury.
