This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to establish the Massachusetts National Guard Family Education Program (NGFEP). The NGFEP is an extension of the existing National Guard Education Assistance Program, allowing Massachusetts National Guard members to split their 130-credit state-sponsored tuition and fee waiver between themselves and their dependents (defined as immediate family members enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System). The program will be administered by the Military Division, which will maintain records of credit usage. To be eligible, National Guard members must extend their service obligation or reenlist for an additional 6 years after completing their initial 6-year obligation, be in good standing, and have not previously used the state tuition waiver. The total combined benefits for the member and dependents cannot exceed 130 semester credit hours, and dependent enrollment is subject to seat availability.
