This bill adds a new section to existing law to provide training for members of school boards and persons interested in serving on school boards. The key provisions include: 1) Requiring each school board member to undergo training on the duties of a board member within 180 days of election or appointment, with the training provided by the State Board of Education or its designee. Time constraints of the board members will be considered when developing and delivering the training. 2) Requiring each school board member to undergo biennial training on board governance, current issues in public education, and leading innovation and change in public education, also provided by the State Board of Education or its designee. 3) Allowing the State Board of Education or its designee to offer optional training to persons interested in serving on school boards, which will be available electronically and include information on board member duties and current issues in public education.
