This bill authorizes counties and municipalities in Maryland to take the following actions after giving 60 days' written notice to the electric company and the Public Service Commission: 1. Convert their street lighting service to an alternative-energy-only tariff that includes only electric distribution fees, without facility, support, maintenance, or other charges. 2. Submit a request to acquire the street lighting equipment from the electric company at fair market value, or acquire it through condemnation if an agreement cannot be reached. 3. Enter into an agreement to purchase electricity for the street lighting equipment from any available electricity supplier. The bill also requires the Public Service Commission to adopt an alternative-energy-only tariff for street lighting by December 1, 2020, and provides a framework for resolving disputes between counties/municipalities and electric companies regarding the acquisition of street lighting equipment.
