Bill Summary
ELECTION OF CITY COUNCILMEN -- Amends existing law to require certain cities to establish districts for city councilmen.
AI Summary
This bill amends existing law to require cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, based on the most recent federal decennial census, to establish districts and elect city councilmembers by those districts. Cities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants may also choose to establish districts and elect councilmembers by district. The bill specifies that each district must be composed of one or more contiguous election precincts and contain approximately the same number of people. It also requires cities establishing districts to determine the method of implementation at least 90 days before the next general election.
