This bill revises the number of felony convictions that a person in Mississippi can be eligible to have expunged from their record. Previously, a person was only eligible for one felony expungement, but this bill increases that to three felony expungements. The bill also clarifies that the expungement process applies to all eligible convictions, regardless of whether they occurred before, on, or after the effective date of the act. Additionally, the bill specifies that the expungement process applies to both convictions after a trial and after a plea of guilty. The bill maintains the existing restrictions on expunging certain types of felonies, such as violent crimes, arson, and trafficking of controlled substances.
