This bill enacts new sections of the Ohio Revised Code to prohibit certain licensed health care professionals, including advanced practice registered nurses, physicians, psychologists, counselors, social workers, and chemical dependency professionals, from engaging in "conversion therapy" when treating minor patients. Conversion therapy is defined as the practice of seeking to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity. The bill allows certain interventions that do not seek to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity, such as assisting with gender transition or providing acceptance and support. The state licensing boards for these health care professionals are required to impose sanctions, such as suspension or revocation of licenses, for failure to comply with the prohibition on conversion therapy.
