This bill amends the Clerks of Courts Act to allow the clerk of court to accept payment of fines, penalties, or costs by certified check, in addition to the existing methods of credit card or debit card. The bill also provides a definition of "certified check" as defined in the Uniform Commercial Code. The bill gives the clerk of the circuit court the authority to enter into contracts with credit card or debit card companies, as well as third-party fund guarantors, facilitators, and service providers, to accept payments and collect service fees.
