This bill adds a new section to existing Idaho law to establish "Simon's Law" regarding life-sustaining treatment for unemancipated minors. The key provisions are: 1. Requires that at least one parent or legal guardian of an unemancipated minor patient be notified, both orally and in writing, before a physician can institute an order not to resuscitate, withhold artificial life-sustaining procedures, or withhold artificial nutrition and hydration. This notification must occur at least 48 hours before the order can be implemented. 2. Allows a parent or legal guardian to request a transfer of the unemancipated minor patient to another facility or home within 48 hours of being notified, and requires the current facility to continue providing life-sustaining treatment for at least 15 days to allow for the transfer. 3. Requires physicians to disclose in writing any policies or services the unemancipated minor may receive involving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, artificial life-sustaining procedures, and artificial nutrition and hydration, upon request of a parent or legal guardian. The bill aims to provide additional protections and notification requirements for decisions regarding life-sustaining treatment for unemancipated minors in healthcare settings.
