This bill proposes several changes to strengthen Iowa's workforce, including: 1. Creating a Future Ready Iowa Expanded Registered Apprenticeship Opportunities Program to provide financial assistance to apprenticeship sponsors with 20 or fewer apprentices in high-demand occupations. 2. Establishing an Iowa Child Care Challenge Program to encourage businesses, nonprofits, and consortiums to establish local child care facilities and increase affordable child care for working Iowans. 3. Implementing a Workforce Diploma Pilot Program to help adults beyond school age obtain a high school diploma while developing employability and career/technical skills. 4. Requiring computer science instruction be offered in at least one grade level in elementary and middle schools starting in the 2022-2023 school year. 5. Allowing school districts to receive supplementary weighting for sharing a work-based learning coordinator as an operational function. 6. Expanding eligibility for the Future Ready Iowa Skilled Workforce Last-Dollar Scholarship to include recipients of high school equivalency diplomas and graduates of Iowa high schools or private instruction who enroll in an approved state-recognized work-based learning program. 7. Making changes to the Senior Year Plus program and Postsecondary Enrollment Options to expand opportunities for high school students.
