This bill prohibits local governments, including home rule charter or statutory cities, counties, townships, and school districts, from adopting or enforcing ranked-choice voting, which is a method where voters rank candidates in order of preference, as a way of voting for local offices. Any existing rules, resolutions, charter provisions, or ordinances that are inconsistent with this prohibition are considered void. The bill takes effect the day after it is enacted and applies to elections held on or after that date.
