This bill amends existing law to revise exception provisions regarding captive wildlife. Specifically, it adds several new exceptions to the requirement for a license or permit to hold certain species of mammals, birds, or reptiles in captivity, including traditional or internet-based pet stores and animals considered household pets such as sugar gliders, African hedgehogs, and certain cold-blooded animals. The bill also clarifies that the exceptions are not intended to authorize the import of animals whose import is otherwise prohibited by state, county, or city laws, rules, ordinances, or regulations.
