This bill enacts a new section of the Ohio Revised Code regarding student religious expression in interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities. The key provisions are: 1) It prohibits schools, school districts, and athletic organizations from adopting rules that prohibit or obstruct students from wearing "religious apparel" (defined as headwear, clothing, jewelry, or other coverings) while competing or participating, unless there is a legitimate danger to participants. 2) If a legitimate danger is identified, the organizer must offer reasonable accommodations to the student. 3) Schools, districts, and athletic organizations are not liable for injuries or damages unless they engage in willful or wanton misconduct. 4) Violations can lead to civil actions for damages, injunctive relief, or other appropriate relief.
