This bill, the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act, directs the Department of Transportation (DOT) to set aside funds through fiscal year 2025 to provide parking for commercial motor vehicles on the federal-aid highway system. The bill requires DOT to use the set-aside funds to provide competitive grants to states, metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, and certain public agencies for projects that construct safety rest areas, commercial motor vehicle parking facilities, or convert existing weigh stations and rest areas for the exclusive use of commercial motor vehicle parking. The federal share for these projects must be 100%. The bill also requires DOT to survey and assess the availability of commercial motor vehicle parking facilities every two years and report on the progress being made to provide adequate parking.
