This bill, the Prescription Digital Therapeutics to Support Recovery Act, aims to amend the Social Security Act to provide coverage of prescription digital therapeutics (PDTs) for the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. PDTs are defined as FDA-approved or -cleared products, devices, internet applications, or other technologies that use behavioral treatment or modification to achieve their intended results and can only be dispensed with a prescription. The bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a payment methodology for PDTs and allows for separate payment to providers who prescribe and use PDTs as an integral part of a related treatment. The amendments in this bill would apply to PDTs dispensed after December 31, 2020.
