This bill amends Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide for the declaration of judicial emergencies. It states that if the time within which an action must be commenced under this title is set to expire during a judicial emergency declared by a governing authority, the time for commencing the action will be tolled and the action may be commenced within 30 days after the expiration of the declared judicial emergency, or when the judicial district establishes a method by which the action may be commenced during the emergency, whichever occurs first. The bill applies to any judicial district for which a judicial emergency is declared, and if a statewide judicial emergency is declared, it applies to all judicial districts. The bill is retroactive to March 18, 2020.
