This bill amends Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide for the declaration of judicial emergencies. Specifically, it states that during a declared judicial emergency, the Department of Transportation shall not suspend a person's driving privileges or withhold the renewal of their driver's license if the deadline for taking the required action or making the payment under Section 1533 (relating to suspension of operating privilege for failure to respond to citation) or Section 1503(a) (relating to persons ineligible for licensing) expires during the declared emergency. The bill gives the person an additional 30 days after the expiration of the judicial emergency, the establishment of a method by the judicial district for commencing the action or payment during the emergency, or the effective date of the judicial emergency (if the district had established a method prior to the emergency) to take the required action or make the payment without penalty. This provision is retroactive to March 18, 2020.
