This bill increases the state excise tax on cigarettes from $4.35 to $6.24 per pack of 20 cigarettes. The increased tax is intended to be imposed on the sale of cigarettes in the state, with the exception of sales to qualified Indians for their own use on reservations or sales to the U.S. military. The bill also establishes a mechanism for the collection of the tax on cigarette sales to non-members of Indian nations or tribes and non-Indians on qualified reservations.
