Bill Summary

This bill provides that it shall be a deceptive and unfair practice for a health insurer to: (1) represent to any person that a health care provider is part of the managed care network of the health insurer, if the health care provider is not or will not be part of the insurer's managed care network; or (2) provide any person a financial inducement to purchase insurance from the health insurer, or to switch to a certain health benefits plan offered by the health insurer. As used in the bill, "inducement" means a monetary or other incentive, including, but not limited to a medical device.

AI Summary

This bill prohibits health insurers from engaging in two deceptive and unfair practices: (1) representing that a healthcare provider is part of the insurer's managed care network when the provider is not or will not be part of the network, and (2) providing any person a financial or other incentive (such as a medical device) to purchase insurance from the insurer or switch to a specific health benefits plan offered by the insurer. The bill aims to protect consumers from misleading information and undue influence by health insurers.
