Bill Summary

A bill to require reports on certain Department of Defense activities with respect to artificial intelligence, and for other purposes. This bill requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to submit certain reports with respect to artificial intelligence. Specifically, DOD must report to Congress on the role of DOD in the development of artificial intelligence standards, including an assessment of the ways in which an artificial intelligence standards strategy will improve the national security; and the feasibility and current status of assigning members of the Armed Forces on active duty to the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center of DOD.

AI Summary

This bill requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to submit two reports to Congress. The first report must assess the DOD's role in developing artificial intelligence (AI) standards, including how an AI standards strategy would improve national security and how the DOD plans to collaborate with various government agencies and private industry. The second report must examine the feasibility and status of assigning active-duty military personnel to the DOD's Joint Artificial Intelligence Center, and evaluate the impact of such assignments on strengthening ties between the center and operational forces, creating broadening assignments for personnel, career trajectories, and the center's capacity to influence DOD-wide AI adoption policies.
