This bill, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2020, grants the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) the exclusive authority to approve or deny applications for the siting, construction, expansion, or operation of facilities, such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals, to export natural gas from the United States to foreign countries or import natural gas from foreign countries. The bill also clarifies that the President's authority under various laws, such as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, to impose sanctions on foreign persons or governments, including those designated as state sponsors of terrorism, is not limited by this legislation.
