This bill requires every State correctional facility to establish a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Committee. The purpose of the committee is to review complaints of sexual abuse in the facility. The PREA committee is required by the bill to hold monthly meetings during which minutes are to be recorded. The committee members have one week from the date of the meeting to approve the minutes and arrange for the minutes to be posted on the official website of the Department of Corrections. The federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was passed in 2003 for the purpose of determining the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, state, and local correctional facilities. The act also provides for information, resources, recommendations, and funding to be dedicated to protecting inmates from prison rape.
