This bill, the Future Advancement of Academic Nursing Act (FAAN Act), authorizes the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to award grants to nursing schools to increase their capacity to respond to public health emergencies and pandemics, as well as to enhance their nursing education programs. The bill prioritizes grants for historically Black colleges and universities, minority-serving institutions, schools located in medically underserved communities, and schools in areas with health professional shortages. The grants can be used for activities such as increasing student and faculty enrollment, developing and modernizing educational programs and curriculum, retaining and hiring faculty, and upgrading infrastructure and technology. The bill also requires grant recipients to submit annual reports and the Secretary to provide a report to Congress on the grants' activities and outcomes.
