This bill allows Deina Abdelkader, an employee of the University of Massachusetts, to join the State Contributory Retirement System. Within 30 days of the bill's effective date, Deina Abdelkader can elect to become a member of the state employees' retirement system, discontinuing her participation in the optional retirement program. The bill allows Deina Abdelkader to purchase creditable service for the time she worked at the University of Massachusetts and any prior membership in the state employees' retirement system. The cost of purchasing this creditable service will be based on the contributions Deina Abdelkader and the Commonwealth would have made if she had been a member of the state employees' retirement system, plus investment gains and actuarial-assumed interest. Deina Abdelkader must complete the necessary transfers and payments within 30 days of receiving the cost to purchase the creditable service.
