This bill establishes the Massachusetts Medal of Fidelity, which will be presented to the next of kin of a service member or veteran who died as a result of combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder or a service-connected disease, condition, or injury related to exposure to harmful materials while serving in the U.S. armed forces, active or reserve components, or the Massachusetts National Guard. To be eligible, the service member or veteran must have entered military service or state active duty from Massachusetts, been a Massachusetts resident at the time of death, or been a member of the Massachusetts National Guard. The bill also specifies that the medal will be awarded to those who served after December 6, 1941, and outlines the commission responsible for making recommendations for the award.
