This bill establishes the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area in the state of Maryland, to be administered by the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland as the local coordinating entity. The bill outlines the authorities and duties of the local coordinating entity, including making grants, providing technical assistance, and developing interpretive and educational programs to protect and enhance the natural, cultural, historic, scenic, and recreational resources of the Heritage Area. The bill also requires the development of a management plan for the Heritage Area, and authorizes up to $10 million in federal funding, with a 50% cost-sharing requirement, over a 15-year period.
