This bill, the Ensuring Telehealth Expansion Act of 2020, extends several telehealth flexibilities that were initially authorized during the COVID-19 public health emergency until December 31, 2025. Key provisions include: extending Medicare coverage of telehealth services, allowing Federally Qualified Health Centers and Rural Health Clinics to provide telehealth services, temporarily waiving requirements for face-to-face visits between home dialysis patients and physicians, and allowing the use of telehealth to conduct face-to-face encounters prior to recertification of hospice care eligibility. The bill also temporarily removes originating site requirements for Medicare telehealth services during this period. The Comptroller General is required to submit a report on the success and limitations of implementing these provisions, including any cost savings or impacts on rural hospitals.
