This bill establishes the National Disaster Safety Board, an independent federal agency with the purpose of reducing loss of life, injury, and economic damage from future natural hazards, public health incidents, and technological disasters. The Board will review incidents that cause 10 or more fatalities or meet certain other criteria, to determine the facts, causes, and recommendations to prevent similar incidents. The Board will have investigative powers and the ability to provide technical assistance to government and private entities. The bill authorizes funding for the Board and oversight by the Inspector General and Comptroller General.
