This Resolution denounces the efforts of the Nicolás Maduro regime to hold fraudulent legislative elections in Venezuela, which are seen as an attempt to undermine the country's democratically elected National Assembly and further erode Venezuelan democracy. It joins the international community, including the Lima Group and the International Contact Group on Venezuela, in rejecting these illegitimate elections, emphasizing that the necessary conditions for free, fair, and transparent electoral processes are absent. The resolution urges that future presidential and legislative elections in Venezuela be held as soon as possible and adhere to international standards, including credible international observation. Furthermore, it calls for the Maduro regime to end its persecution of independent political parties and their leaders, release all political prisoners, cease its campaign of violence and repression, and for Nicolás Maduro and senior regime officials to be held accountable for crimes against humanity.
