This bill amends Chapter 54 of the General Laws to require that the police force of each city and town detail a sufficient number of police officers or constables to preserve order and protect election officers and supervisors at polling places during elections. The bill also prohibits county or state law enforcement officers, including sheriffs and deputy sheriffs, from being present at or within 300 feet of a polling place without the express written approval of both the Secretary of Public Safety and Security and the local police force, and this restriction also applies to early voting locations.
