This bill amends the Lead-Based Paint Poisoning Prevention Act to establish additional procedures for families with children under the age of 6 living in federally assisted housing. The key provisions include: 1) Requiring owners of covered federally assisted housing to conduct an initial risk assessment for lead-based paint hazards within 15 days of a physical inspection or a date set by the Secretary, and to control any identified hazards within 30 days, with exceptions. 2) Allowing families with young children to relocate on an emergency basis to another unit with no lead-based paint hazards if hazards are not controlled. 3) Establishing a demonstration program for tenant-based rental assistance, where owners conduct and pay for initial risk assessments, and the Secretary covers the costs of abatement for any identified hazards.
